Despite the name, “French Breakfast”, most French people don’t eat this food to start the day. They rather consume it as a snack or light meal and sometimes dip it with salt to enrich the flavor. In some places, it is a favorite snack when drinking beer.

Back in 1879, an heirloom cultivar was introduced, and it became popular in Paris. Therefore, people named this radish “French breakfast radish,” which became the official name of this vegetable. Compared to other varieties, the French version has a sweeter and milder flavor, making it more enjoyable to eat.

How To Eat French Breakfast Radish

The traditional way of how to eat radishes traced back to the Parisian manner, and it hasn’t changed much since then. To serve this dish, you will need radishes, butter, bread, and pepper. The leafy tops need to be trimmed off, washed, and probably dry.

The next step will be to prepare to toast bread to reach the highest crispy level with the brown skin. A nice touch of salt and melted butter sprinkle on top of the bread will bring up the flavor.

Taking a bite of radish and combining it with a piece of bread will balance all the taste in your mouth. Also, you can add this vegetable with salad and crudite platter.

How To Select The French Breakfast Radish

How To Pick The Best Quality

The vegetable has a flavor of mild pepper and sweater more than most other radishes. To achieve its most decadent flavor, farmers usually forage and nourish it in the summer as this time, the warmer the soil is, the more spices it has.

Once you purchase this vegetable, it is good to keep it in the fridge with a damped towel, not in the built-in ice makers or freezers, to retain the freshness and dispose of them after three days if not used.

  • Small onion
  • Clove garlic
  • 6 ounces white wine
  • 1 cup of vegetable broth
  • Dash black pepper
  • Croutons for garnish

Begin with dicing garlic, onion, and potatoes; after that, stir-fry these ingredients on a hot pan for 30 seconds. Add white wine into the pan when the potatoes turn to be soft.

During that time, peel the radishes and slice them. Put all the ingredients into the pot and cook them. Add cream, salt, and pepper depending on your taste. Nicely pour the mixture into a bowl and add croutons for decoration.
